Baker's Story

Baker's Story

I’d like to share a little story on my journey that no one asked for 😝. I had a bold dream to really make this more than just a home based business (HBB) and today, my little dream of owning a confectionery shop came true! I started my HBB on 30th May 2020 and launched a humble shop in January 2021. The main reason for me to do so was to pay off my University fees. Searching for jobs was exceptionally hard when CB kicked in and unexpectedly, I was lucky enough to secure a full-time job in June 2020. It was tough and messy for me to juggle both a full-time job and my HBB. Yet, I prevailed! *pats self on back*

The concept and branding for my business has always been an ongoing process in my head. It was only during the CB period that I found my motivation to start this business. That is truly my silver lining. Eventually, I also want to create a platform where I can support and promote those I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to work with, through sharing their expertise here. HMU businesspartners!

I have learnt that many thoughtful customers go the extra mile to surprise their loved ones. I am immensely proud to be part of their happiness 😊

Being in this small-scale start-up industry is not easy. It is a one-man show where I had to do every single thing myself- baking, delivering, sales & marketing, customer service, daily operations, planning & strategy, finances and more. There were times when I felt like quitting because sometimes PASSION CAN BE TIRING. Many people mistakenly believe that passion equates to happiness, but it may be overwhelming at times until you hit the threshold.

Today, I am proud to say that I have resigned my full-time job to focus on The Gift Box Confections as I have fully paid my University fees yay!😝 I definitely couldn't have done it without your support.

With this, we're back with new ideas and a re-invented business mission. YAY! I'm hoping to increase our production, without sacrificing on quality, we’ll continue to make all of our desserts lovingly by hand.
